Morning Routine- A.M Rejuvenation for All Day Motivation

How to get motivated in the morning.

I know, not another morning routine post from another morning person!

I feel you. I too resented morning people for the longest time.

I didn’t quite understand why someone would want to wake up earlier than they had to, to do things they didn’t need to. My curiosity throughout the years of being a night owl remained strong. I read many blog posts and articles supporting the benefits of being an early riser but remained skeptical.

It wasn’t until I started my own business while being a stay at home mom that I began to see a need for a better morning routine.

Life became even more overwhelming after I began my business. My self-care and time to myself had vanished. I was moody and stressed.

I needed to do something different. So, I researched things like how to be more productive.

I eventually came across The Miracle Morning: The Not-So-Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life (Before 8AM). A book that recommends a method referred to as SAVERS. This stands for silence (meditation), affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading, scribing (writing).

After only a week of The Miracle Morning I begun to see what the hype was all about.

Pin for later

It wasn’t to get more work done or cram more activities into a day. Nope. People were waking up earlier for the completely opposite reason. They were doing it to unwind and relax!

After 7 days of The Miracle Morning and years of curiosity for the strange morning people, I finally understood why people couldn’t stop talking about their transformative morning routines.

Morning people understand that sacrificing a few uncomfortable minutes in the morning, will bring them outstanding results for the rest of the day.

A morning routine is truly transformative when it keeps you feeling inspired and motivated throughout your entire day.

Another benefit of having your own Miracle Morning routine is how amazing you feel afterwards. It is truly a gift you give yourself when you wake up earlier and take care of your own needs first. Grounding yourself in a consistent practice or routine before you tackle the day will change your life.

Oddly, waking up earlier and devoting the first hour of the day to yourself may give you more energy.

This was something I totally wasn’t expecting. After the first day I found I had more energy by the end of the day than the days I slept in.

When you rise earlier to take care of yourself first, you fill your cup up. Then, you have a deeper reservoir to give to others and your work throughout the day.

When you feel replenished, things don’t get to you as much. Thus, you reserve your energy for the things that matter. And you can accomplish even more when you aren’t operating from a place of depletion or overwhelm.

The days of waking up tired, stressed and empty are gone for me. I am officially a morning person now. I too have traded sleeping in for a better-quality life.

I’m truly in love with my new Miracle Morning routine. I feel so excited to go to sleep at night because I get to wake up and enjoy myself, love myself and care for myself first thing in the morning! The extra hour I wake up to do this is just a minor detail to me.

There are tons of options for morning routines that you can choose from. Some of you will need to hit the gym as soon you wake up (another curiosity to me), others might meditate first thing or maybe a morning stroll is all you need. Everyone needs something different.

Don’t compare your morning routine to others. The only person you should be competing with is the person you were yesterday.

Compete with yourself to feel so damn good that you have the energy to get more done, the patience to respond thoughtfully to others and a relentless joy that will have others wondering what your secret is.

The important thing to remember about your morning routine is that it needs to be just for you.

That means no phone calls, social media, checking emails, working, or learning. This one is tough I know. I slipped up a few times already. Don’t be hard on yourself. If you forget or just really feel the need to break this rule than go ahead but try not to.

You’ll notice a difference in your mood when you stick to the rules. The idea behind this rule is that these things require you to give your attention to something other than yourself, thus taking from your cup.

Your morning needs to be about replenishing yourself and giving yourself what you need to have a happy, productive day. If you can find what works for you and save the actual work for afterwards, you will receive a greater benefit.

Alright, my “Miracle Morning” is a bit different than the one described in the book. Full disclosure, I tried it the books way and decided to make it my own instead. I tailored it to suit my personal needs and personality.

I think everyone interested in The Miracle Morning should do the same. This is your morning, your joy, your life. Only you know what is best for you.

Here are the changes I made to The Miracle Morning to make it mine!

Coffee

Rewarding yourself first thing when you wake up is motivating. For me this is coffee.

Knowing I have coffee to help me transition from tired to awake is comforting. Also I’m a creamer junkie so my Reese’s flavored creamer is exciting because it tastes so good!

Full disclosure I cut it with almond milk because sugar is no bueno. But this is my way to reward myself for waking up, coffee that tastes good!

If you’re not a coffee drinker, then consider a pretty or healthy type of juice or beverage. In addition to my caffeine addiction my other obsession are the flower decaf lattes like this Blue Butterfly Pea Latte or try a rose tea latte! Both are super easy to make and basically liquid self-care!

Read

I am all about being gentle with myself in the morning. So I read while I drink my coffee. I don’t put a time limit on it like 5 or 15 minutes. I simply read for as long as it takes to finish my coffee and then get to a good stopping place within my book.

Go for books that fuel your soul. Maybe a good fiction book is your jam. Mine is spirituality, so I read a ton of spiritual, energy, meditation, manifesting etc books.

Journal

Journaling is something I struggle with for two reasons. 1) I don’t always know what I want to write about. 2) I don’t always have the time as a toddler mom, homemaker and entrepreneur.

Therefore I journal at least once a week usually on the weekend. This way I always have something I want to get out on paper, or thoughts I need to organize.

Also journal prompts can be a great thing to add to your #SelfcareSunday! Sometimes it just feels more fun to surprise myself with a prompt, then to write about my life or my problems. A lighter tone is needed for some mornings.

 Yoga

This is the exercise part of SAVERS. After I have finished with journaling/affirmations/reading I start my morning yoga practice. I keep the lights low or turn on a lamp to set a nice vibe. Then, I’ll do a 20-30 minute flow or yin yoga. Depending on what feels intuitive to my body each morning.

Meditation

After yoga is done, I find a 10-minute-long soundtrack to listen to during my meditation. As an energy healer and intuitive life coach, I also do channeling to receive any necessary guidance, clarity or information about my day. Then I will use energy healing to clear, heal and align my energetic state and cultivate my calm.

Creating your calm is vital to a proper meditation. If you can’t focus your meditation will be unnecessarily difficult, so I recommend listening to something with earbuds.

I recommend listening to binaural beats. It is great for working with chakras and your energy field. So if you feel you need a lot of help balancing and centering it will help double you get balanced. Otherwise any relaxing music without words.

When the soundtrack ends my meditation is over. It’s a gentler signal than setting a loud timer. Remember we are going for calm and centered here. Make sure the elements in your space reflect this.

Essential Oils

This is also not in the Miracle Morning. I added it anyways because I enjoy using essential oils as the official signal that I am ready to begin my day.

The aromas help me to stay in a space of centeredness as I start my chores/work/parenting. It’s a reminder to breathe deeply and continue to allow everything that I cultivated in my morning routine to keep flowing.

Smoothie

After a wonderfully positive morning routine like this one, the last thing I want to do is eat an heavy or unhealthy breakfast.

Instead I keep the vibe high by fueling my body with a nutrient packed, mood boosting, energy giving smoothie. It wraps up my morning routine and gives me some clean energy to start the day with.

So, as you can see, I enjoy letting my morning flow more naturally.

Try not to hold yourself to any rigid expectations or numerical steps. Do what feels intuitive. Swap, exchange or add depending on what your intuition is asking for or what speaks to your wellness.

Do this every morning as well because you may need different things each day.

The Miracle Morning routine is to approach each activity separately. I feel more joy when I do it my way. Completing each activity separately, felt overwhelming and drawn out to me.

You’ll notice I do not do visualization either. Personally, I like to embody how I want to feel, instead of picturing it. So, during my meditation I will cultivate the feelings I want to have; relaxed, supported, loved, peaceful. I’ll do some energy healing during my meditation to help facilitate these feelings.

An easy, seamless flow speaks to me more than a compartmentalized routine. Do what comes naturally and is enjoyable to you.

If you like devoting time to each activity and are a visual person then go with the traditional Miracle Morning. My visualization is already very active, so it’s helpful for me to work on creating positive emotions instead.

Intending and embodying the feeling I want to maintain during the day, rather than picturing it. Then, my thoughts and actions will follow suit to support my intention of how I want to feel.

The most important thing you can do in the morning is to make sure that the activities you do in the morning truly bring you joy.

If you prefer to sit on your porch and watch nature instead of meditating with your eyes closed, then do not force yourself to do something you aren’t into. There’s a million ways to meditate. In fact, I’m learning a hugging meditation soon!

The whole point of a morning routine is to find activities that get you excited to wake up and start you off on the right foot. Don’t create negative energy you bring forward into your day by doing things that don’t speak to your soul or make you feel good.

Experiment with different activities, don’t do the ones your dread, combine them, repeat them, throw some away. This is your time and your routine. OWN IT! LOVE IT! NURTURE IT! Give yourself what it is that you need, first thing, every morning.

Life is full of things we must do, so make your morning routine something you want to do.
